It always feels strange referring to charitable work as “giving back.” It makes it seems like you took something from the people you’re helping and are now sheepishly returning it. Like “here’s that 20 I snagged off your dresser, I’m gonna write it off on my taxes.”
Instead, we at Prank-O aim to “give laughs.” Because laughter makes the world a better place. No, that’s just not something we read on a bumper sticker (although someone should make that bumper sticker), it’s something we actually believe. What better way to process our pain, our insecurities, our missing earbuds, then through laughter?
That’s why we’re excited to announce our new Prank-O Cares initiative. Here’s the scoop:
Prank-O Cares? What’s that?
Through Prank-O Cares, we’ll be visiting schools around the country to educate America’s youth on the benefits of comedy and laughter for your physical and mental health, social development, and the irrepressible need to get the chuckles out.
Do you have a mission statement?
At Prank-O, we believe joy is the greatest gift. Our mission is to spark laughter in everyday moments while empowering kids to discover the art of comedy at a young age. Beyond inspiring future comedians, we’re committed to nurturing creativity, confidence, and connection. Through our programs, kids learn to embrace imagination, build social skills, and not take themselves too seriously. Because when more children grow up understanding and practicing the art of comedy, the world becomes a brighter, better place.
When are you getting started on this new initiative?
We already have! Here in Minnesota we’ve hosted events for children at New Hope Academy and the ‘Comet Crushers’ entrepreneurial program at Sandy Creek Central High School. It’s been a blast!
What was the most memorable Prank-O Cares moment so far?
While speaking at a children’s daycare, we asked why laughing is good for you and a kid raised her hand and said “my dad works outside!”
What other comedy-based charities inspired Prank-O Cares?
There’s more than you may realize! Stand Up for Heroes is an annual event hosted by the Bob Woodruff Foundation where stand-up comedians like Stephen Colbert, Jim Gaffigan, and Jerry Seinfeld have performed to raise money for veterans. There’s also Hilarity for Charity, a nonprofit founded by Seth Rogen and Lauren Miller to care for families impacted by Alzheimer's disease. Others include Comedy Gives Back, ComedyCures, and Night of Too Many Stars.
How can I get involved?
