They say an idea is only as good as its execution. Which is a bit menacing, no? Obviously the word “execution” has more than one meaning, but one of those meanings is vastly different from the others. Anyway, the ideas we’re executing this month are our 4 NEW PRANK GIFT BOXES – available now on Pranko.com and Amazon.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how these boxes came to be.
FIDO FOCUS MOCK-UP

FIDO FOCUS FINAL BOX

On the final box, we arrived at the name FidoFocus with a front cover that claims to speed up dog walks a whopping 50%. The product supposedly comes in different sizes for different breeds ranging from Yorkies to Great Danes. We even included a shoutout for a separate dog product by the inventor Todd Lawson: attachable weights to eliminate time-consuming leg-lifting to go pee.
SPORT SLING MOCK-UP

SPORT SLING FINAL BOX

The final box, which suggests using the Sport Sling for any high-octane activity you want to bring your newborn along for, including break-dancing, firefighting, or mowing the lawn. The box urges the buyer to unlock “core baby memories that engage your baby’s core.” As for that original ski image, we decided to turn up the dial by showing a mother mountain climbing with her baby in tow. What a time to be a tot!
PUZZLE BUDDY MOCK-UP

Some ideas execute themselves (See what we mean? So menacing). The PuzzleBuddy was a concept that instantly inspired a mock-up pretty close to what we landed on for the final product. Pitched as an A.I. device that solves puzzles for you, we had fun with the miniature robot design working hard putting together scattered jigsaw pieces while the puzzle owner (played by our co-founder Ryan) naps on the couch. Next we had to figure out a “hook” that would really earn the premise of the PuzzleBuddy.
PUZZLE BUDDY FINAL BOX

“Critical thinking isn’t that critical!” the final box exclaims, followed by a blurb refuting the notion that the cognitive benefits offered by puzzles are worth the boredom they elicit. Other callouts mention an app to monitor the robots progress and a warning to keep all windows closed while using PuzzleBuddy to ensure it doesn’t escape.
SWING CLEAN MOCK-UP

We were ready to send all our new box designs to print when we realized there was one troubling omission from this year’s catalogue: no golf-themed boxes. With such a huge market of golf accessories ripe for parody, we new we had to run – not walk – back to drawing board to get one in the mix. A couple ideas were thrown around. How about a speaker that attaches to your golf club for on-the-green jam seshes? Or maybe a pacifier that tethers to your belt to ensure you keep your head down while you swing. Ultimately, we went in a different direction. Originally called the Drive&Clean, we released…
SWING CLEAN FINAL BOX

**drumroll** (but not too loud, the kids are asleep) SWING CLEAN! (we said not too loud!) This club-mounted brush makes for easy shoe cleaning. Other products advertised on the box include peacock-resembling golf bag and the aforementioned pacifier. There’s also alternative uses for the Swing Clean like brushing your dog with your golf club, dusting high shelves, and even cleaning other clubs. But perhaps the most fun part of the box is the blurb by Chance Manning, the fictional inventor of this fictional product. In his words, “practice makes perfect, but money makes more perfect.”
