HOW A JOKE BECOMES A BOX: BEHIND THE SCENES OF PRANK-O’S NEW PRANK GIFT BOXES

It all starts with an idea. Or, in the case of Prank-O, an absurd idea. And as long as consumerism is a thing (aka forever), Prank-O will have no shortage of absurd ideas. The ever-changing retail market provides endless inspiration for funny-as-they-are believable prank gift boxes, and you’re about to get a front row tour of how that inspiration is put into play.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at Prank-O’s 4 new prank gift boxes, which are available now on Pranko.com and Amazon for all your gifting needs.

Pudding Pouch Sketch

The Pudding Pouch was imagined as a, well, pudding pouch. It’s an aptly-named pouch you fill with loose pudding and scoop pudding out of as you go about your day. Early mock-ups included the tagline “A fanny pack for pudding!” and a small insert to stash your ladle in. It was also during this phase that some of the box’s side panels were conceptualized, like a person wearing the pouch on the beach and an award for ‘Best Pudding Storage.’ There was talk of other things that could go in the pouch, like gravy or smoothies or even vodka.

Pudding Pouch Final Box

In the final iteration of the Pudding Pouch, the ‘Best Pudding Storage’ award was switched to a second place prize for added comedic affect. The box also now includes a box panel depicting a separate boy and girl version - despite them both serving the exact same function. We also scrapped the idea of other foods or beverages going in the pouch and instead included copy boasting the product as the world’s first waist bag optimized for pudding storage. There’s even a questionable statistic from the brand’s “internal data” that suggests 30% of all landfills consists of single-use plastic pudding containers. In conclusion, the Pudding Pouch is perfect for any sweet-toothed gift recipients on your shopping list!

Poopsie Daisy Sketch

Napkins used to be good for wiping salsa off your face, but now they’re best for hastily doodling flowers sprouting out of dog excrement. Or at least that’s how the Poopsie Daisy box was first ideated. The tagline “Turn dog poop into flowers!” accompanied the drawing of a daisy sticking out of a pile of canine droppings with squiggly lines to show the stink. Other mock-ups included flower seeds being poured into a dog’s food bowl and a tiny ‘Do not scoop’ placard to stick in the feces as you await their blooms.

Poopsie Daisy Final Box

By the time the Poopsie Daisy Box was finalized, we had brainstormed even more jokes to go along with the premise. On the back of the box, a warning label says that if a dog is constipated, owners should bring them to the nearest animal hospital for emergency daisy extraction. There’s also an added side panel showing off a bouquet of flowers with poop dangling off the end of the stems. But perhaps the grossest (albeit funniest) callout is the soon-to-be-released Poopsie Produce packets that grow fresh herbs from your pet’s not-so-fresh droppings. Grab one for a pet lover stat!

Cast & Blast Sketch

When it came to the Cast & Blast gift box, a lot of ideas were thrown around right off the bat. We knew we wanted a tool for simultaneous hunting and fishing, but how? Was it a fishing rod that fired bullets? A gun with a hook at the end? The question was answered in an early mock-up that showed a separate rifle and fishing rod tethered together by two sturdy straps. Other doodles depicted a half-duck half-fish carrying bin and a cookbook for land and sea animal combo meals. The biggest laugh came from the scribbled tagline: “Fish while you hunt! Hunt while you fish!”

Cast & Blast Final Box

The final box for the Cast & Blast brought all of these ideas to life and more. A dog on the front cover is seen retriever a gunned-down duck while hunter/angler sits back in his chair reeling in a fish. There’s also a customer review quote that says, “I shoot first, then drop a line later!” A blurb on the back guarantees buyers that they’ll never find themselves in a situation again where they miss out on a quail flying by as their fishing, or a trout swimming by while they hunt. And as for that cookbook? Recipes now include Blue Marlin Caribous Burgers and Turkey-Crappie Pot Pie. It’s a guaranteed laugh for the outdoor enthusiast in your life!

TikTok Sketch

Between the Birthie Stick and Crib Dribbler, we’ve always had fun creating boxes tailored to new, tired parents. We knew this time around we had to keep it fresh and with the times, and what’s more timely than a box that satirizes the way parents post about their kids on social media? And like that, the baby influencer kit idea was born (Play on words? Maybe). Early mock-ups included taglines like “Make baby a viral sensation!” and “Attractive babies get more clicks!” There were baby makeup kits and tanning beds. But the biggest thing we needed to figure out was the name.

TikTok Final Box

After much discussion, the name TikTot was chosen as a play on the type of social media app where baby content would thrive. The front of the box goes all out with included items like a tiny green screen and ring light. Copy promises that the aforementioned tanning bed will turn your “pale, ghostly baby into an olive, easier-on-the-eyes tot.” There’s also a book you can buy written by TikTot inventor BrandiRae James that will teach you how to gain 10K followers in the first week of your baby’s life and set up an S-corp in their name. It’s a surefire way to crack up any new parents that understand babies = content in 2024!
