So, I bought a pretty thoughtful/sentimental gift for my roommate, for Christmas. I’ve talked about it (with/to him) for months, and even told him his (very demure) mom was involved in making it happen. I decided to put it in this box, thinking he would simply find the box funny, since we have a dog, but would know it was a prank box since I’d also told him beforehand that I’d ordered several Prank-O boxes for family members. Nope. I put it on our kitchen counter for him to open in the morning (as I slept), before leaving for a flight to Florida to spend Christmas with his mom. He thought the gift was actually what was advertised on the box, and never opened it. When he woke me up to tell me he was leaving, he thanked me for the “gift”. I smiled (no laughs at all), and said, “I’m glad you like it!” thinking he’d seen the actual gift inside. Then I asked, “Did you like the box?” He just said, “Yes,” and smiled. Later that day, I called him, when he was on his way back from the airport in Florida to his mom’s house, with his mom, and told her, “I finally gave him the gift!” She said, “I hope he didn’t learn too much about me! I had a very boring childhood!” Needless to say, he was very confused, and questioned her about the gift after we got off the phone. That night, he told me, “I have a confession to make…I never opened the box, thinking that was the gift, but realized something didn’t add up when we were on the phone earlier.” I literally cried, I was laughing so hard. Success! 😂 For anyone who may wonder, the actual gift was a book his mom had to fill out about her upbringing. Haha.
