Chosen annually by Prank-O, the world’s preeminent maker of novelty gift boxes, the Fooly Awards recognize outstanding achievement in mischief making on tomfoolery’s most hallowed day.
The prankers came, the prankers saw, and the prankers conquered. We are proud to announce this year's Fooly Award winners!
2024 PRANK OF THE YEAR
KRISPY KREME
Have you ever looked at a glazed donut and thought, “why can’t they do that to all food?” Krispy Kreme had the same thought when they dreamt up their prank “you bring it, we glaze it” offer. Available only on 4/1 (checks out), customers can bring any food item to their nearest Krispy Kreme for a smooth, sugary coating. While the posted image features a slice of pizza, burger, watermelon, and bell pepper, the possibilities are endless: glazed avocados, glazed rotisserie chicken…hell, you can even bring in a glazed donut for double glazing. Hats off to Krispy Kreme on a sweet joke for sweet-tooths!
BEST USE OF OWN NAME
Scotch Tape
While Scotch Tape’s roots are from our home state of Minnesota, the brand claims their new Scotch Whisky by Scotch™ is from the highlands of Scotland. This “strongly smoky whisky with distinct herbal notes” may not be real, but the laughs you’ll have upon seeing the recognizable logo from the sticky tape in your desk drawer printed on a barrel-aged whisky will be nothing short of genuine. Cheers to a prank well done!
BEST PRANK THAT TURNED OUT TO BE A FUN GAME
NEW YORK TIMES
If you’ve ever played the New York Times Connections online puzzle game, then you know what it’s like staring at a bunch of words for hours on end trying to figure out what they have in common. Now imagine those words were emojis. Although regular Connections players were confused when they opened up the game this morning to discover that was the case, those who decided to play through anyway found that it actually presented a fun challenge figuring out how to group a lamb emoji with a tea kettle emoji. It’s a good day for news publications that double as game developers!
BEST AND PROBABLY ONLY ASTRONOMICAL PRANK
WHO GIVES A CRAP
One small wipe for man, one giant wipe for mankind! The epically-titled eco-friendly toilet paper brand Who Gives A Crap is taking a note from billionaires in space with their new (prank) mission to launch their TP rolls to Uranus, a planet they chose because it’s “filled with gas and literally smells like farts.” With an accompanying video detailing the toilet paper’s 9-year journey to their “#2 favorite planet,” it appears the final frontier is more of a front-to-back situation. Astrophysics can be funny too!
HONORABLE MENTION
BAD WEATHER BREWING
Moviegoers have been divided over the new ‘Dune’ movie’s marketing ploy to offer popcorn buckets resembling the fanged sandworm from the franchise. That’s why fellow Twin Cities company Bad Weather Brewing took it upon themselves to post about their new Desert Planet Beer Can Bucket. Equal parts terrifying and inconvenient, the brewery’s gag lives up to its inspiration. You’ve made Minnesota (and Arrakis for that matter) proud!
